SURABHI KUKKE

Surabhi Kukke is an SFS parent to a current 8th grader and 3rd grader. She has been working in the field of women’s health and human rights for over 25 years, primarily focusing on improving the public health response to intimate partner violence. Central to this work is the promotion of the social determinants of health which are about promoting equity in communities to create better health outcomes for all. She has also been a community organizer in Austin for over 10 years committed to addressing racial disparities through mutual aid solidarity work and advocating for people-centered allocation of resources by City Council. She hopes to bring her experience and commitment to equity and justice to support the many efforts of the Board and Head of School. 

Her family is fairly new to the SFS community - this is their second year - but she, her partner Paige Trabulsi and their two sons, Nayan and Akshay, already love the sense of community at this school and the sincere care that is shown to all who walk through SFS’s doors. She is honored to serve on the Board. 

Surabhi Kukke has worked in the field of women’s health and human rights for over 25 years. Currently, she is a consultant, primarily working with Futures Without Violence, focusing on capacity building and resource development for health care workers on assessment and response to intimate partner violence (IPV) and the intersections between IPV, reproductive health and HIV. She is based in Austin, Texas where she was formerly Director of Prevention Programs at the Texas Council on Family Violence and facilitated statewide efforts to improve the public health response to intimate partner violence and strengthen violence prevention programs. Prior to arriving in Texas, she worked in the international development sector providing operational and evaluation support to community-based HIV/AIDS and reproductive health programs in southern Africa and South Asia. She has also provided technical and research support to international agencies including UNDP, UNIFEM, RTI and Action Aid. Kukke has a master’s degree in public health from Harvard University.
